Hi Shirley,
I may have been one of those who sent this information, as I have done so in
the past. A number of years ago, the index to the New York State (excluding
NYC) were kept in boxes (on microfische) at the Department of Health office
in Albany. They are now kept at the State Archives, also located at the
Empire Plaza. These are indices only, not the actual records. They contain
minimum information, such as name, date of event, place, and a record
number.
For information on obtaining NY Vital Records, I recommend that you go to
the following web site, the NY Vital Records Page:
<http:\\vitalrec.com/ny.html>
I access this page through the NY GenWeb site.
Regards,
Ginny

Pittsfield, MA, next week. He is wondering if it would behoove him to drive
across the Hudson into Albany for the purposes of looking at these records.
In essence, he has asked me just exactly what is on these records -- are
they duplicates of the filings at the various township offices? And can you
reiterate the years involved?

located beyond the shelved books to the left of the double doors where the
Librarians are located? I think I've examined them several years ago, but
I've forgotten what the records contained.
