Henry Winfield Decker, (b. 11 Aug 1840, Decker's Loch/Lock, NY, d. 16
Feb 1886, in or near Silver Cliff, Custer, CO), was my paternal great
grandfather. Henry married Phoebe Marie Canfield (b. 19 Aug 1843,
Barryville, NY, d. 29 Dec 1932, Yampa, Routt, CO)
His father, Philip (b. 31 Dec 1799; d. 16 Mar 1882, Glen Spey, Sullivan,
NY). Philip's parents were James Decker and Glorannah Case.
His mother was Asenath (Senia) Winfield/Windfield (b. 04 Sep 1802, d. 18
Nov 1872, Lumberland, Sullivan, NY). She was descended from Abraham
Winfield and Grietje (Margaret) Quick (Jacobus Quick and Jannetje Van Aken).
Phoebe was the daughter of John Canfield (b. 08 Apr 1808, d. 27 Apr
1888) and Sabrina Early (b. 11 Oct 1812, d. 13 Apr 1876)
Much of the information I have came from a cousin, whom I haven't talked
to/seen for some time, and I have very little documentation for anything I
have.
My internet research leads me to believe that there was never a
settlement of Decker's Lock/Loch but was the site of lock # 65 on the
Delaware Canel where the Decker House was. Said house apparently was built
by Martinus Decker and I can find no connection between him and Henry. Was
Martinus a brother of James?
I have so many questions about "family stories" that just aren't tying
in with my net research I will be happy to correspond off list with anybody
who might have something to spin me around and head me in the right
direction and will share anything I have, documented or not.
Thanks everybody,
Stella
