Elmira Steele Memorial Library is also in the planning to be a site for the indexes to NYS vital records.

The closest thing to it is that we now have acces to the vital records
microfiche in several locations; Albany at the State Archives, NYC at the
National Archives branch office, Syracuse at the public library, Rochester
and Buffalo also at the public libraries. There has also been some
discussion about them being available in Watertown or Glens Falls soon but I
do not know about that.

If you are unable to travel to any of those sites check the various county
GenWeb pages and see if you can find a kind person to do it for you.
