Hey! Does Louis XVI belong to any of ewe? Here is a pretty
interesting/unusual story on him.
Karri
>>>Executed king's hair sold at auction
GRENOBLE, France - A lock of Louis XVI's hair, cut from the French
king's head just after his execution in 1793, was sold at auction
Saturday for $5,636. An anonymous royalist bought the hair after a
brisk but short-lived round of bidding. The lock was originally picked
up by a drummer present when Louis XVI was guillotined in central Paris
in the aftermath of the French revolution. He gave it to his mother, an
avowed Royalist, and it remained in the family for almost 100 years
before being given to a family in Grenoble in 1880. Descendants decided
to sell it for financial reasons. The drummers drowned out Louis XVI as
he tried to make a final speech in Paris's Place de Concorde before
being laid out in the guillotine. >>>Oooh, history is a hobby of mine.
During the same time, the French scientist who discovered oxygen was
also executed in this fashion. He believed that the severed head lived
on for several moments after decapitation. He instructed his assistant
to count how many times his chopped-off head could blink. The result:
thirteen blinks before lights out!
