Thanks for your replies. I don't have the book here - but I
believe Antonia Fraser also lists Henry Bennet as the father
of Mary. For the time being, I've disconnected her from Charles II.

It also lists Henry Bennet.

One of the reasons ofr my interest in this concerns the common ancestry
of Prince Charles and Diana Spencer.

If Charles II had been the father of Mary Walter, Charles and Diana
would
have had James VI & I as a common ancestor - making them 11th cousins.
Otherwise, we must go back as far as Edward IV - 18 generations back.
Please correct me if I have missed something.
