Rymut's index of contemporary Polish surnames (pub. 1992) gives
7,070 people with that surname -- not very uncommon after all!

The book only lists the name distribution by counties. There seem
to be some in most of the counties, but the bulk are in
central Poland (counties of Warsaw: 475, Lodz: 470, Bydgoszcz: 402,
Torun: 534) and around Krakow in the south (Krakow: 344, Nowy Sacz: 530).
