Yes Janet, besides being very attractive to look at, Scarlet Runner Beans
taste marvellous when picked and cooked straight from the vine... These past
two years I have also been growing 'climbing' French beans. They grow to about
5' and need support like peas, but they don't get muddy - or need to be picked
on hands and knees! They are very prolific and, eaten young before the beans
even begin to swell, they are not unlike sugar snap ('mange tout') peas.

A clear night with frost was forecast two nights ago, so I rushed out and
covered my tender plants with horticultural fleece. Glad I did too! But we're
back to warm and wet today.
