Yes I am very lucky, Johno. I have been doing a daily two mile walk lately
to stabilise my wonky knee and ankle and improve my heart and lungs. Today,
with a neighbour, I left the road at White Lodge on the A6 and walked a mile
up Deepdale over stiles, and stepping stones and little streams and steep
rocks into the hidden valley.

The birds sang fit to bust and the little white flowers of meadow saxifrage
danced above the grass. Deepdale runs far into the hills between Taddington
Moor and Great Shacklow Wood, (a densely forrested hill) and after half a
mile we entered a magic world where the steep green hillsides were covered
in cowslips and brilliant purple wild orchids. There was water-avens too, in
the damp ground under hawthorns and the paths were littered with hazelnut
shells where the squirrels had dug up their stores. The sun shone and there
were several parties of walkers. Everyone said hello, but there was no
feeling of being crowded. I feel great, though I have to adit I need an
early night.

Yes! I'm a lucky girl to live here ... Lizzie

date 1933 onwards I motor cycled round all those beauty spots.
