Subject: Talk About Luck

Have just heard . . . .. the daughter of one of Glen's co-workers had
been visiting Hong Kong for a while with her boyfriend when they decided
to spend Christmas in Thailand in a beach hut resort!. They had
actually booked an early morning snorkelling trip to Pi Pi island on
Boxing day . . . . but slept in, and missed the boat (luck was with them
once). They were on the beach at their resort at 8:30 when they
suddenly noticed the tide going out VERY rapidly, and thought it
strange. A man next to them on the beach was a vacationing Science
teacher who taught all about earthquakes and tsunamis . . . . he told
them to drop everything and RUN as far and as high as they could (luck
#2). The whole resort was destroyed . . . . except for their particular
unit. All their clothes and documents were wet, but safe. (#3).
The daughter managed to borrow someone's cell phone so she could let her
parents know they were OK . . . Dad was woken at 4:30 in the morning to
say that the resort was destroyed, there was water everywhere but they
were safe. Of course being half asleep he had no idea what she was
talking about. . . . it wasn't until a neighbour came banging on the
door later that morning asking if he'd heard, and was his daughter OK,
that Gary realized the enormity of it all!
How unbelievably fortunate . . . gives you goosebumps just to think of it.
