Hi Jan et all, thanks for your help with my GEDCOM files, I will now try and
put instruction into practice. If only it was as simple as writing a history
essay!
Re the Buchanan's, as you probably already know, they are a clan in their
own right. I don't think there was any sinister motive behind so many
emigrating to north America. they are a lowland clan, living near Glasgow in
the Loch Lomond area where Dunbartonshire meets Stirlingshire. They are a
big clan with lots of Septs and the area they came from is reasonably
fertile. They probably emigrated for a number of reasons, e.g. younger sons
seeking new pastures, soldiers in the Loyal Regiments remaining in North
America after the French and Indian Wars and then the Wars of Independence
etc.
