Subject: [GEN-UNSOLVED-MYSTERIES-L] Who is the father
Date: Mon, 31 Aug 1998 09:33:49 -0400

My grandfather's story was that his father would rather go fishing
than take care of his family. So my grandfather was adopted by his
grandparents. He had 2 living brothers and a sister who were supposed
to be adopted out.
My ggrandmother had married a Edward Lamay when she was 4 months
pregnant with my grandfather. She was 18 and he was 29. My grandfather
was born__________Lamay with Gertrude Wilson Lamay and "Edgar" Lamay as
parents.
Apparently he was sent to live with his grandparents early because in
the 1900 census, he shows up living with his grandparents, George and
Sarah Wilson, listed as a 3 yo,
but his name was Chester FAIRCHILD. I have no idea where this surname
came from, or why they were using it for him.
I had summised, since his mother was living in the next town with
her huband having children, that there was a reason that he wasn't
wanted. I assumed that he was not the natural child of the husband
Lamay even before I saw the Fairchild surname.
Meanwhile the parents have ________Lamay in 1898, a boy,
Florence Mina Lamay 1900 (dies of cholera the day her sister is born
Sylvia Sarah Lamay in 1902
________Lamay 1804, a boy
Strange that they never named the boys - until later I guess
I found the first son, Howard Lamay in our family plot in Ferrisburg
VT. He had never oficially been adopted out, since he was still a
Lamay. I never could identify the last boy, and could not find out what
happened to Sylvia.
I found a delayed birth certifcate for my grandfather, giving him the
name Chester Munro Wilson. Given father was his grandfather, given
mother was natural mother Gertrude. I assume that this was created
before his grandfather died in 1909 - or maybe so he could enter WWI
with an official. name.
In the town indexes, his name is penciled in under L as Chester Munro
Wilson.
Now who is the true biological father ? Edward "Edgar " Lamay,
________Fairchild or his grandfather?
