Subject: Re: [GEN-UNSOLVED-MYSTERIES-L] Where is Frank Hurdle??

I posted this when I first came on the list, but will do so again as I have a
little more information.

Frank Hurdle was my maternal grandfather. He worked for the New York Central
Railroad and was hurt on the job. I think this was about 1929 or so. Frank
and Kathryn lived in Youngstown, Ohio and had 5 children: Frances, Robert,
Thomas, Elizabeth, and Edward. Frank's mother, Lillian lived in Zanesville,
Ohio and apparently the family went there while Frank recuperated.

My mother (Elizabeth)always told me that Lillian hated my grandmother, Kathryn
- why, I'm not sure - religion could have been part of it. Anyway, the story
my mother always told me was that Lillian put Frank in a hospital but would
not tell which one and he died there, but she would never tell the family
where she buried him.

I have since found out that he was in the Massilon State Hospital from 1934 to
1936 (not sure what happened between 1930 and 1934) and then transferred to
the Dayton State Hospitial from 1936 to 1946. They told me he was
"discharged". I don't know to where of if he was let out on his own. I have
written back to ask this question. His mother's obituary in 1951 says that
she has a surviving son, Frank, but his address is unknown. So, apparently he
was alive past 1951. I have had Columbus search the 1950's and 1960's for a
dc, but they have not found one. I am now awaiting results on a search of the
1970's and 1980's. That would be unreal! My mother went through her life
thinking her father was dead...and now to find he was not. You just never
know what you may find!!!
