Hello!

I'm brand new to the list, and have a family mystery I'd like to solve.
This is not one of my direct ancestors, but he was married to one of my
"aunts".

I know this is pretty obscure, but it would be fun to know:

Harriett B. Hughes married James Forgey Thurman on 25 Jan 1844, in MO.
A few years later he left for the California Gold Rush. Her last letter
from him was posted in South Pass, then part of the Nebraska Territory.
I don't know that the family ever got specific information about what had
happened to him. Does anyone know of a way to check this out?

Thanks much!

Doy G.
