Subject: Where are penal colony records

My great grandparents were married in Hawaii in 1853. He, Hope
Hendrickson, was a sailor and presumably arrived in Hawaii as a crew
member. But what about my great grandmother. There is no record of her
arrival as a passanger. How did she get to Hawaii? Hypothesis: she was
also a crew member or stowaway aboard a ship that she "boarded" as a
runaway from an Australian penal colony. Where can I find records of those
who were sent to Australia's penal colonys? An email reply to
