Subject: LAURIE family of Weymouth, NZ

Hi,
I'm seeking help re the Laurie family. A John Laurie was sentenced to
transportation to Australia in April 1804 for theft of linen. He was 20
and arrived in Australia in 1806 on the inappropriately named 'Fortune'
I don't know when he moved to NZ but he died in Weymouth in 1873 aged
88. His son John Laurie jnr arrived in NZ in 1839 with his wife Louisa
Stokes. He was born June 30, 1814, and had (or adopted) a daughter
called Annie Laurie. They were a well known pioneer family of Weymouth
and ran a ferry service to Karaka Pt. Two sons and two grandsons drowned
in 1895. I believe they originally came from Scotland in Dumfrieshire.
Any info regarding these people would be appreciated.
Ta,
R.B. Perry
