Hello: Would it be possible for some kind person to look in the Sydney
Morning Herald August/September 1867 for any information regarding a
ship bound for NSW from England that had a mutiny attempt on board? I
cannot supply the ship's name, but my 4th ggfather and his family were
on board the ship - John and Elizabeth ALLOWAY and children. Elizabeth
was newly pregnant when the ship left England in February 1867. She
delivered her son within weeks after arriving in Newcastle in August
1867. Her granddaughter, my aunt of 92+ years says that her father told
her that the ship experienced a mutiny attempt and made "many detours"
taking over six months to reach Australia. Many attempts have been made
to find the ALLOWAYS on passenger lists to no avail, both for Newcastle,
NSW generally and Victoria. My hope lies in the fact that such an
unusual occurence would have been noted in the major Sydney newspaper.
Thank you for any help given and especially to Margaret Morters for all
of her help. Glenys
