SURNAMES (aka SURNAMES-L) is the GLOBAL group - attached to
soc.genealogy.surnames.global. It gets all the messages sent to any of
the 7 lists. Try unsubscribing from that group and subscribe, instead, to



That one is attached to soc.genealogy.surnames.misc. That group will have
all the messages with NZL and AUS mentioned in the subject line. It will
also have ZAF and NLD and CHI and BRA and any other country which is
NOT included in any of SURNAMES-USA, SURNAMES-CANADA, SURNAMES-GERMAN,
SURNAMES-BRITAIN, or SURNAMES-IRELAND.

That should be a much more manageable list for you.
