Yikes.............. Not exactly user friendly then...
I do hope Bill can crack these issues soon. If my database was complete
I would be possibly be prepared to spend the time setting up these
reports in Word or something else. As it stands now though it changes
almost on a daily basis, so I really do need an integrated easy reliable
method of producing these things to send to family members etc.
I have found that for many people who are not particularly good with
technology of any kind, the inclusion of pictures etc in the reports
makes them much more interesting, and thereby sparks off many more new
leads, memories, etc etc.

Julia - It looks (based on what I can get out of GenBox which isn't
100%; see my previous posts) like GB puts in a bunch of section breaks
in your report which cause some of the problems that you are
encountering.
The other problems are (1) that the advanced formatting options for the
images are set to absolute vertical and horizontal measurements. (2)
There is no text wrapping option selected. (3) The children are
enumerated inside of a table which causes problems with the placement of
images. The only way to have an image on the same line with a table is
to either have that section of Word set up in two columns with the table
in one column and the image in the other (this is the most difficult way
to do it) OR to have an extra column in the table and have the image
inserted into the column.
To get the results that you want, requires that you manually make 6
adjustments to the picture format (just go get them unbunched)
(including several placement options, text wrap options, and locking to
paragraph), add an additional column to the right side of the table in
which the children are detailed, adjusting the table columns so that
there is a small amount for the image and a larger amount for the text,
moving the images one by one into that new column next to the child's
data, and then making some minor tweaking on the picture format so that
each is centered in the cell. For the parents, you need to make the 6
adjustments and then can manually drag them to the right hand side of
the paragraph for the "focus person."
So the bottom line is that I don't think that GenBox is generating this
report in compliance with the necessary formatting options in Word to
make the report come out as it is supposed to. Additionally, you can do
that manually in Word, but it is going to take a bunch of work.
This is something that Bill is going to have to address. Alternatively
you might try some other layout options in GenBox and see if using an
alternative media placement results in a satisfactory report, albeit
with images in a location different from the one of your choosing, but
unbunched. Sorry, I wish that I had better news, but based on my
experience that is what is happening when sent directly to Word. I
haven't tried using GenBox's viewer, saving the file, and opening it in
Word, but you seemed to indicate that the images were all bunched up
there, also.

I set the default veiwer to Word and was using my old favourite
"descendant narrative with media". Apart from trying to include
multiple photos the only other changes I made at this stage to the
defaults were to change the font to Tahoma.
Best wishes

Julia - Did preview the report first in the GenBox viewer, save it, and
then open it in Word or do you have your default viewer set to Word and
the report went straight there?
As I said, I haven't sent any reports lately, but if you tell me which
report you were running and how you have your report directed (viewer or
Word) I will see if I can figure out the problem. I have a hunch about
why they were all bunched in the middle and would like to see if it is
correct. If so, I can give you some advice on how to solve it.

Thanks for the reply, I am also hoping that a load more flexibility and
options will appear in the reports before too long.
Hopefully this possible text wrapping issue will be an easy tweak for
Bill, as I don't think I have the patience to wait for the report to
open in Word every time. It seemed to take forever... And when it
finally did open, it had piled all the images on top of each other in
the middle of the first page, - a real mess. Is that the expected
behaviour? Btw, this wasn't a particularly large file, around 60 people
in 5 generations.

Julia - I haven't played with this aspect since early in the initial
release days. I did, however, decide at that time, that I would like a
bit more diversity in how pictures were arranged on a page and decided
that I would do so in Word. The fact that the first line of your text
lines up with the bottom of the media suggests to me that it may be an
issue of how text wrap is applied. Have you tried opening the document
in Word and looking at the Properties for the image and seeing how the
text wrap is set? You can always modify it there.

Hello
Trying to include media in the position "right media margin" is fine as
long as you only want to include 1 picture. If two or all pictures are
chosen, the start of the text section lines up with the bottom media
item which looks rather strange, and leads to great chunks of white
space wasted on each page.
Am I missing something here or is there any way to fix this? I've tried
putting the photos in the other positions, but personally I don't think
any of the others look so good.
Thanks
Julia
