Cheri,
The only repository I have tried to put back is two variations of a place
for the National Archives in my census sources. I can get them to stick by
answering no. Haven't tried any others. However, as you requested, List
View, sort by ID, reverse the sort----> no new people called "National
Archives." You may be getting them because what you are trying to enter is
different. Don't know, but it is definitely broken.
Still don't think you're crazy, though.

Paul - Go to your List View and sort by ID number. Check at the very bottom
of the list to make sure that you aren't getting people. I didn't think I
was either, until I checked the list by ID number and found Westminister
Library as a person and the Personal Library of Susan Anderson identified as
a person on the Individuals list.

Cheri, Bill,
I am getting the same results as Cheri, but I'm not generating new
Individuals if I say NO to the question about enter a new Individual when I
have entered a PLACE. However, once auto-completion fills in the Repository
field with the correct PLACE and I hit tab, I should be left alone, not
asked if I want to create a new Individual.
Bill, I'm not sure there is really anything wrong with the concept of
linking an Individual, Place, OR Researcher to the repository field, but the
current implementation simply isn't working, even the way you would expect
it to.

Bill - If I type in the name and auto completion takes over, I do get the
name BUT I get a popup saying something to the effect that this individual
can't be found do I want to add a new one. Even if I say *no,* and the
place sticks (sometimes it does and sometimes it does not), I get a new
person called Whatever Library or Whatever Whatever. All of these
repositories are already in my Place list but for some reason (1) GB isn't
finding them there, (2) even if I double click to bring up the place pick
dialog and select off the list, (3) I get a new PERSON named whatever.
I do have people who are repositories, however, I have set mine up as
separate places, i.e., Personal Library of Susan Anderson, Personal Library
of Cheri Casper, etc. What is troublesome is that any existing repository
that you attempt to put into the repository field generates a PERSON even if
that place already exists as a separate Place. Hence I had a person called
"Westminister Library, Someplace, Utah." I had to delete several of these
phantom persons.
My thinking is to have a separate Repository list. That way you could
create a Repository that was either (1) a person, or (2) a place. This
would allow for easy modification of the Repositories PLUS you could link
the repository to a "higher" level, i.e., person or place.
Whatever happens, repositories need to be fixed so we aren't creating a
bunch of "people" when we should be having "places."

The Repository field is actually linked to Individuals, Places, and
Researchers. Try typing the name of a place and see what happens. It should
autocomplete to any of the three.
The idea was that the "repository" for a source might be an individual. The
concept "repository" is not an actual data category, it is more like a
"role" that can be filled by different objects. Rather than creating a place
that was actually an individual, such as "Holdings of W.M. Smith", Genbox
allows you to link directly to the individual.
I'm thinking now that this approach may be too complex. It's hard to
maintain and hard to explain. Let me know what you think--maybe some other
design that would be better. Your opinions are highly valued.
