Bill - Great. The use of [1L], etc. will satisfy what I'm needing. I'll
have to reflect on how the other new variables can be used. If you have
multiple variants, how would this work, i.e., referencing [1LN2458] local
site level for place name variant 2458 or [LN1089] place name variant with
record ID 1089? Since each place can have multiple variants, but only one
place ID no., I'm confused as to how the programming will know which place
variant I want. Do I want the first or the 5th?

The ability to include the notes for the places is going to be a great
addition. I guess understanding of the rest of the proposed variables will
come with 'xperimenting.

Hi Cheri,

I happen to be working on a number of enhancements to the event templates
for the next release. Here is how places will be handled:

[L] location in current event.
[L234] standard place name for place with record ID 234.
[LN1089] place name variant with record ID 1089.

[1L] local site level for place in current event.
[2L] city/town level.
...
[6L] nation/area level.

[2L586] city/town level for place 586.
[1LN2458] local site level for place name variant 2458.

In short, a place level number can be placed BEFORE the "L" template code to
restrict the output to a particular place level. A number appearing AFTER
the "L" base code indicates a particular record number reference; no number
means the reference is to the location in the current event record.

The place notes and place name variant notes can also be referenced for
inclusion on reports:

[GL] general notes for place in current event.
[RL] research notes for place in current event.
[GL456] general notes for place 456.
[GLN1089] general notes for place name variant 1089
etc.

There is also a new "Insert Field Code" dialog to make selection of all the
possible field code variations easier. Plus a "Toggle Fields" toolbar
button, so you can preview your general notes/research notes in place with
data in the fields.
