Wim - If the Individual Pick Dialog is filtered, you *can* sort on first
name. For unfiltered Pick Dialogs, clicking on the header results in an
alpha sort by first name WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF THE SURNAME, i.e., all of my
Andersons are sorted by first name. But if what you are asking is that you
be able to sort so all "Marys" or all "Joes" are together, that option
doesn't exist as a sort option. You, therefore, have to resort to a query.

The namecolumn from the Individuals picklist is sorted on Surname > Given
Name. I don't remember if it was the case in the beginning, but I noticed it
at least a couple of updates ago. A sorting ability on Given Name seems like
a usefull adition to me too.
