Bob,
Please reply to me at to keep this off the Genbox list. I've been researching ancestors in Germany for about a year now. I'm on the Rootsweb lists for Baden and Hesse and they have been helpful. Recently joined German-surnames and German-Traditions. Cindi's list has a lot of good stuff. The most important thing about Germany research is finding the name of the town that the ancestors came from in the records in the US. Then you can use the microfilms of the church records. Germany was not a country until 1870, everything is local or regional. The Baden-Wuerttemberg emigration list is online and it was helpful for me.

Folks,

I know this is not Genbox related but I was wondering if your knowledge of Genealogy extended to researching ancestors in Germany.

A couple of my ancestor lines go back to Germany.

I have seen the IGI stuff on www.familyserach.org as well as the generally available family trees but is there anything like the
Birth, Death and Marriage data or census data that England and America have?

Thanks.

Bob
