Hi,

In my view the XML syntax is of little value
as long as you have already implemented a decoder
for the basic syntax in Gedcom. XML is (almost)
just another way to wrap up the same old Gedcom 5.5.

What really makes a difference is the data carried
inside the wraping. The xml gedcom 6.0 that I have seen
is a small step forward, but it has some way to go
before it can handle the data structures currently
handled by programs such as Genbox and TMG.

Does anyone know if anything is happening in the
area of standards development? I think I read somewhere
that development of 6.0 had been stopped?

Geir
