I found the solution for my problem (because of the way I name my media
files). I opened up the Media view and filtered for any Media that began
with the letters DC (death certificate). Then I was able to drag the
filtered list results down to a Saved List. I guess this is one more reason
to use consistency in the naming of things.
But for folks who do not have such a practice, there must be a way to do
this, but neither method suggested worked (at least not with 20,000 people
in the database). I have a gig of RAM but that didn't seem to suffice.

Does this do it?
- Search for individuals
- Events tab, select Events: Death
- Media tab, select Total media: >0
