They actually work almost the same way.
In both places,
*US produces any names containing "us" with preceding text
* US produces any names containing " us" with preceding text
US* produces any names containing "us" with text following
This is the standard way that searching operates in databases and other
search engines.
In the GB source list,
US produces the same as US*
[This does not work in the Report filters because the Place List search
is a find-as-you-type system. Example: N finds all the places that
start with N, including Nebraska, Nevada, and North Dakota; adding e
(Ne) then finds all the places starting with Ne-- Nebraska, Nevada, New
Hampshire and all the rest of the News.) This is the way that Find in
This Page search works in Firefox.
