Hi Alan.
Mostly, the person who starts the "wave" is the one who invites the other(s) from his or her contact list. Privacy issues are handled by Google so I guess it depends on how much you trust the people at google to handle that. Same as with gmail I would guess.

Don't know what the maximum filesize for an attachment to a wave is. Or how it handles the attachment. It's also in a sort of "pre-beta" (alpha) state so a lot might change or other functionality might get added in the future. At the moment, the functionality is "text oriented". People working on the same text document. For instance a Family Newsletter.
I haven't used Wave in a meaningful way yet, It's more like a toy for me at the moment. I have invited you too. Just take a look and play with it after you've received the invite.
