You simply leave it blank if you don't know the name. What do you want to
force something that doesn't exist? You can always use the convention
[f\Rosa & Lucille Burk], i.e., father of Rosa & Lucille Burk, which is
described, I believe in the Help file. This lets you link siblings together
when the parents are unknown.

Cheri,
Your suggestion does not exactly answer my question. However, I would be
satisfied with a good suggestions as to what to code as a placeholder for an
unknown (or possibly unknown) name.

Sorry if this has been asked before. What is the best methodology to enter
something in a parent field when the parent is unknown. I am certain that in
some cases the parent is actually known to at least one person but may have
never been acknowledged. In other cases, the event occurred long enough ago
that the records are not available or discovered.
I would like to make such entries in a way that will not disturb any
sensitivity, but as simply as statements of fact.
