Good Day David,

Yes, I noted the Twitter posting too. However, because Bill is loading a
world place names table for the Genbox database does not mean the same
implementation (the way we see that listing of place names) will be what
version 4 has.

This list's "friends" at toptenreviews.com actually review genealogy
applications as to whether the software includes a place name listing. While
their reviewers "claim" for 2011 that only Family Tree Maker offers a place
name auto fill, I note that both RootsMagic and Family Historian offer
identical place name auto fill lists as used by Family Tree Maker. All three
have drop-down lists from which the user can select a place, while the
current version of Genbox tries to fill in the place information based upon
what the user types.

As for deleting the shipped contents of the place names table, why? In the
place names list, entries 1 to 195 are countries (country level), 196 to 245
are individual states (USA state level), followed by Pacific island,
Australian, Canadian, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, etc divisions to
maybe entry 418. If I want to work with, change, or see for what individual
a particular place is used, I open the place entry window ( View > Lists >
Records > Places and double click on an entry in that places list). Usually
I am fixing my typos that have created a second (or more) place entry.

Best,

Denise

I see from Bill's blog on Twitter that he's "Loading the support database
with world place names... ". That seems a awful lot of work, when we can
quite simply add our own. The first thing I do when starting a new tree is
to delete all the place names. Any comments....?
