I hesitate to take a path that is a lot of steps and time consuming as I do
not believe that should be necessary to fix this. If that is the case, it is
potentially a problem for lots of records and that would be prohibitive and
impractical.
I do not have Access so I can't take that approach.
I discovered something else in experimenting however.
If I point to someone else in the summary view, the open the events view for
them, then go to line in events where "defaults" is on the left, then click
on the magnifying glass on the right, it will reformat the date field in the
manner I previously mentioned and leave it that way.
I am in the midst of reviewing the help files to see if I can figure out
what may be happening. Again, all ideas are welcome. Tell me what I have
done wrong and I promise not to do it again.

Have you simply tried creating new entries for this couple, exporting the
events from the old records, importing them into the new records (SANS THE
TROUBLESOME DATES!), reconnecting the kids, and then deleting the old
records? Does that yield the same results? Have you opened the database in
Access and fixed the date there?

Wim and Cheri - I ran all of the repair and check functions, restarted the
program before I made the forum entry. So I did that all again just now and
I still get the same result.
I wonder if I have something set wrong someplace. This has not shown up for
all entries. So far this is the only one. It is a little weird that the
dates shown in the incorrect date range have "vestiges" of the proper entry.
September 26 1870 shows as "between September 1870 and 1926"
I have a chart I need to publish to a group of people which include this
couple, so this is really annoying to be happening. I am glad we noticed it
before I had everything ready to send out.

Wow, that's an annoying problem.
Have you tried the Repair/Compact; Refresh Data; Check Links operations?
