I spent considerable time chasing my own Emery family links in the
same area around the mouth of the River Tweed. Many families were
non-conformists so you must check out the various chapels that existed
in Berwick and Tweedmouth. These include: Shaw's Lane Dissenting
Protestant Relief Chapel and the Golden Square Presbyterian Chapel.
There are others but I can't recall their names off hand. The United
Presbyterian Congregation of Spittle (Spittal) was formed specifically
for dissenters in 1752 who did not want to cross the bridge to
Berwick. (23 Emerys were baptised there.) Check the records of the
parish churches of Berwick and Tweedmouth and check the censuses of
Berwick, Tweedmouth and Spittal from 1841 through 1891 if that is the
appropriate period. All the records are available on microfilm from
the CoLDS.
Good luck!
