If you don't tell us his name, no one will be able to help you!
If someone was knighted and was living in the 20th century, there is a
very high probability that he will have an entry in Who's Who which
began publication in 1897. This will tell you the year that he was
knighted and will summarise his career and probably give some hint as to
why he was so honoured. Once you know the year you will be able to find
more details by reading the appropriate London Gazette, national
newspapers, and most importantly local newspapers for the area where he
lived.
