>>Just what IS a Yorkshire CC left-arm leg spinner????<<

RS> Cricket, Dick - the world's greatest game, much too subtle and
RS> sophisticated for the short attention span of your average American
RS> sports fan to cope with!!!!!
Amen !!!
RS> A left-arm leg spinner is a slow bowler (as opposed to a fast bowler,
RS> or "quickie", who hurtles in off a long run and delivers the ball at
RS> around 100 m.p.h.). He bowls with his left arm instead of the right
RS> (thereby presenting an awkward challenge to a batsman to start with)
RS> and tweaks and twists the ball with his fingers, thus making it
RS> "wobble" in the air and spin in various directions off the pitch,
RS> intending to bamboozle the batsman into not knowing which way the ball
RS> is going and thus getting him out. The spin bowler employs all kinds of
RS> tricks of subtlety and guile. It is an art which very few possess.
Understood - similar to our baseballs "knuckle-ball pitcher" whose
ball appears to go through all types or gyrations as it approaches the
batter. (and these days you need a long attention span for baseball when
a game can run 3 to 4 hours!)
Thanks for the "education", Roy - I hate seeing a word or a phrase that
I do not understand!!
