As far as I can see, never at any time has John Pimentel said that
Eve, Barney and others of their calibre are not valuable contributors
to the newsgroup/mailing list.

His comments have been restricted to what is specifically allowable
according to the charter for the newsgroup (and by extension, the
mailing list). Moreover, he has not descended into personal attacks
such as those given above.

If everyone decided that they were going to post whatever they liked
to the newsgroup/mailing list, then the forum would get clogged up
very quickly, and then the complaints would *really* start.

One point I would like to add (and people who might recognise my name
from other forums will know that it's a favourite beef of mine) -
despite a high level of direct contribution that someone might make to
a forum, it does not give them a licence to ignore the terms of the
forum's charter and do what they like in that forum.

I am not saying that this is what Eve, Barney or anyone has done; I am
merely stating the point in general terms. I most emphatically do not
agree with those who might defend charter-breakers by saying that such
charter-breakers are too important and valuable to be chastised, and
are thus above the law.

The most insignificant lurker has the same rights to usage of the
forum as the most prolific poster, and both are equally bound by the
terms of the charter, although it has been pointed out elsewhere that
the charter itself might be difficult to enforce.

Anyway, personal attacks such as those above are totally uncalled-for,
and the poster should be ashamed and should issue a public apology.
