I heard him actually get cut off the air (BBC radio) in the middle of a
joke. It wasn't that one, in fact it was a bit of doggerel which started
something like:

"When roses are red, they're ready for plucking
When girls are sixteen.............." followed by silence, an apologetic
announcer, and bland music. I'll bet the end of that line was nothing
like what that twitchy producer anticipated!

It was a live broadcast too, and I don't believe he ever appeared on the
BBC after that.
