That depends on whether the intended readers of the group are "Italians in
Italy" or "Those of Italian descent wherever they are". The former should be in
it.*, and the latter in soc.gen.* Since the original proposal came from within
Italy it's (did I get the apostrophe right?) probably the former.

HUH? Are you sure? I thought News servers exchanged messages on a loosely
geographical basis which has no correlation with the group names. Please
correct me if I'm wrong. If so, that's a very good point.

As an Australian (with UK+I ancestry) I couldn't agree more! (Though at least I
speak almost the same language.)
