Cyndi, on my reading Rick was suggesting you add an appropriate
document type declaration, not remove one.

Whilst not having a DTD does in theory make a HTML document invalid it
generally was of no consequence, however some newer browsers are using
the DTD to go into different modes.

All this is getting a bit OT for this group. On-line resources are
available to explain all this in detail for those interested.
