I started family history with a DOS based program - Family Edge - years ago.
It took me about two years to find a windows based program that had similar
features and ease of use. Ancestral Quest was the answer to my needs - the
regular updates and new features that have been provided kept me with the
package. FTM in particular I thought was overpriced and poor value for
money.
As to web pages I have yet to find any program which provides exactly what I
would like - which is tree charts which allow "clicking through" on an
individuals name where additional info is available.
