<< Hi All,
I'm new to this list but have found the subject very interesting. I think I
understand the possiblities and limitations of the mtDNA and Y chromosome
studies that have been discussed. There has also been some discussion of
studies that look at more of the genome, such as the one in progress at BYU.
I am wondering if there are completed studies using this broader approach
that attempt to answer more detailed questions about lineages?
Anyone know of anything?

David,
I believe the BYU study is the first of its kind, at least as far as one
being publicized. I live back here in Virginia and I'm looking forward to
participating in their study when they present a program called "Genetics and
Genealogy Conference" on April 28 of next year in Philadelphia. I understand
that it will be sponsored by the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania.
As the BYU web site says, it will take years of collecting DNA samples from
volunteers around the world in order to get an accurate picture "genetically"
as to where we all came from. And, their going to need the cooperation of
people like us--diehard genealogists and family historians--who are really
excited about these developments to come forward and take part in their study.
