Mike brings up an excellent point. I would guess most of us on this list want
to know -- but we're a self-selected group! We do need to keep in mind that
any testing we do for ourselves has implications for others.

For a broader view, I monitor other mailing lists at rootsweb.com for
mentions of DNA (trying to recruit new members for our list!). You might be
surprised by the number of posts from people who frankly say they don't want
to know. They've invested a great deal of time and effort in tracing a
certain line, often their own surname line. They feel it's part of their
identity and they don't want to take the risk of turning up contrary
evidence. I'm sure we can all agree it's more fun to find evidence which
supports our theories!
