So, if I follow your comments correctly, if I were able to exhume the
remains of my possible 3rd grt grandmother to run DNA tests... the fact that
I am female would make the test viable ???

QUESTION: Would currently available DNA testing provide an answer to my
suspicion that indeed Margaret White and William White were brother and
sister and children of Peter White and Margaret Brown? Also, what and/or
which criteria (descendants) would need to be tested?

If I've plotted this out correctly, the fact that brothers married sisters
doesn't help you with your question, even though their children would share
more DNA markers than most cousins. The siblings Margaret and William White
would have the same mitochondrial DNA from Margaret Brown, but only Margaret
White would pass it on. William White's wife Elizabeth Green would be
passing
on the mtDNA from her mother.

Right now, DNA testing is only practical for straight lines of male or
female
descent. To determine if William is Peter's son, you would need to find
other
White lines, e.g. if Peter had brothers with living male descendants named
White, you could match them against William's descendants.

Anybody have a different angle on this?
