OOPS! That blows that idea... there is a direct female line but it would
come after her son........
Is the only way I could prove that lineage to exhume both the possible
mother and my grgrt grandfather (her possible son) ??? Would I not carry
enough of her genes to make only one exhumation necessary ???
Is there any other way to do this ???

So, if I follow your comments correctly, if I were able to exhume the
remains of my possible 3rd grt grandmother to run DNA tests... the fact that
I am female would make the test viable ???

Well, that's a pretty big IF, but if you are descended in a straight line of
females from her (she is your mother's mother's mother's mother's mother),
your mtDNA sequence would be the same as hers, or perhaps differ by one
mutation.
If your mtDNA turned out to be very different, that would rule out your
hypothesis. If your mtDNA is the same, it would support but not prove your
hypothesis. You could also be descended from her sister or a cousin in a
female line.
mtDNA tests can also be performed on males -- they inherit mtDNA from their
mothers (it's in the cytoplasm of the egg), but for all practical purposes,
they do not pass it on to their children.
