About a year ago, I called the Oakland County Medical Examiner (about 50 miles north of Detroit) to find out if there was any way to identify cremated remains and was told that the high heat would have destroyed any DNA.

My reason for asking is that I just recently found out that I had a brother born about 60 years ago who only lived for about 2 days. He was cremated and his remains were never picked up by my parents. I was hot to try to find his remains for the last couple of years until I talked with the medical examiner. Now, I've kind of given up as there is no way to positively identify his remains. If this information is NOT true, and I can get blood or hair samples from my living brothers (and maybe my dad), would we be able to positively identify the remains of our long deceased brother?

Thanks. I've learned SO much from this list already!

Thanks Paulette for bringing this up.
