Thanks Orin for sharing your information with the rest of the group.

The Molecualr Genealogy Research Group (MGRG) is in the process of
collecting 100,000 samples from all over the world to construct a
genealogical genetic database. Those participating in this stage of the
project will not receive any information back mainly because of privacy and
confidentiality. We remove the names of the participants and link the
markers we found on their DNA to the places and dates of births found on
the 4-generation pedigree charts. Only those that are 18 or older and have
a complete 4-generation pedigree chart are eligible to participate.

We stated in more than one occasion that we are willing to travel wherever
there is a large group willing to participate. However, since there is an
increase number of groups that are expressing the desire to be part of this
project, we increased the number of minimum participants required in order
for us to consider such event. Another reason is that only 70% of those
that committed to be at these events acutally showed up. We want to speed
up the process of having 100,000 samples and we want to make sure that the
money we received from the private grants are spent wisely. Fewer event
with larger numbers of participants will allow us to move faster toward the
completition of the database and keep the cost low. The further away we
need to go to collect the samples, the larger the number of participants
need to be for us to consider the trip. Sometimes we try to combine more
than one local event on the same weekend (such as in Florida this week or
in Australia in May). The sooner the database will be completed, the sooner
people with special genealogical situations will be able to make inquiries
to the MGRG. It is not our intention to create confusion or disappoint
people. In fact, if anyone one as an interest in organizing an event, but
there is the fear of not being able to gather that many people in one
place, you can always contact me and I will help you in the process and in
creating awareness.

Our consent form (also found on our website) states that we offer a small
compensation ($10) for those that participate in the study. However, since
we pay for all the expenses of traveling to the different areas and, if
desired, we offer a lecture at the time of the sample collection, we give
the option to donate the $10 back to the project. It is a very expensive
research and we would like to be able to save some money from the
collection part of the project and use it for the lab work.

We do not accept individual samples (blood, pedigrees or consent forms) in
the mail as part of the construction of the database. We don't accept
samples for special cases during our "traveling events" either. The events
around the world are only meant to collect samples for the database.

Those with special genealogical situations (Special Cases) that would like
the help of the MGRG will need to submit a request either to Ugo Perego
( or to Joel Myres (). There
are a number of cases that can receive the MGRG service at this time and
others that need to wait the completition of the database (3-4 years)
before we can consider them. A fee is requested depending on the case. The
grant we received cover only for the cost of building the database. Special
Cases are charged a fee, which is determined on a individual case according
to the type of test required and on the number of samples analyzed.

If you have more questions about our project, visit our website or email us.

We will not answer all the questions through this email list, but I thought
that this information could be useful for everyone.

Thanks,

Ugo A. Perego
