Thanks Alan,

I must be doing something wrong. When I go to the main Gene Nomenclature
Committee HUGO site at http://www.gene.ucl.ac.uk/nomenclature/ and then
do a search at their Human Gene Nomenclature Database at

http://www.gene.ucl.ac.uk/cgi-bin/nomenclature/searchgenes.pl

I find the following definition for the DYS symbol ....

Approved HUGO gene nomenclature commitee symbol
DYS (dysautonomia (Riley-Day syndrome, hereditary
sensory autonomic neuropathy type III))

When I go to the General Rules for Gene Nomenclature at ...
http://www.gene.ucl.ac.uk/nomenclature/guidelines.html#1.4. ... I find
the definition you suggested under guideline 1.4. DNA segments.

I an confused by the inconsistency. Any help appreciated!
