Subject: [DNA] Administrivia -- please check the address and subject boxes when replying
Date: Tue, 10 Apr 2001 08:19:30 EDT
As your list administrator, I am embarrassed to admit my own failings in this
matter. However, "Do as I say, not as I do" -- and try to train your eyes to
check the address and subject line boxes before your mouse clicks on the
"Send" button.
Different mailing lists are set up different ways. GENEALOGY-DNA defaults
the "Reply To:" to go to the whole group. Please consider whether you want
your message to go to one person or the whole mailing list. If your message
is intended for one person, you will probably need to fill in the address box
manually or with a copy-and-paste operation. However, some individuals may
have a "Reply to:" address already filled in by their e-mail software, and
RootsWeb software will not override this. If that's the case, you may send
your message to just one person, when the whole mailing list is eagerly
awaitng a reply. Bottom line is that you need to check the actual destination
before hitting the send button.
Also, don't be bashful about changing subject lines when the topic starts to
drift. This will be helpful for people who only read subject lines,
especially when browsing the archives. This is particularly true if you
subscribe to the digest version -- the subject line becomes Digest #xxx, not
the subject line of the individual message.
Thanks to all for your participation!
