If you're talking about general databases, we most often refer to the
Mitochondrial DNA Concordance at http://shelob.bioanth.cam.ac.uk/mtDNA/ and
the Y STR database at http://ystr.charite.de/index_gr.html. Both of these
databases are anonymous, so you can't locate kin that way, but you can
compare your test results with records in the database and get a very general
impression of the geographical locations where your haplotype has been found,
and whether you have a common or rare haplotype. There are a number of other
databases -- Family Tree DNA maintains a database of submissions, many
surname projects have web pages, and so forth.
