Yes, I think it would be reasonable, but it's also a budget decision, so a
cost-benefit analysis is in order. Will the outcome of this test make a
difference in your future research? Develop some scenarios about what you
would do if your results match the Boone fellow perfectly, if there are one
or two differences, or if there are many differences. Is the Boone fellow
interested in this path and willing to split the cost? If there are
similarities, would you do more paper research? Would you want to recruit
more Boone and Reichert/Richard descendants to clarify the DNA picture?
At the very minimum, you would be performing a "Consumer Reports" test to see
if the two companies report the same results on the same markers. We've had a
few case reports where they have produced identical results, but a larger
sample size never hurts. Also, everyone would benefit from your experience in
following up on a six-out-of-six match which is combined with some
date/locality information to stack the deck in your favor. We just don't know
how to combine odds from the two different domains of genealogical and DNA
evidence. If you can't guess, I'm very curious, too!
