Subject: [DNA] $99 test and JONES
Date: Fri, 1 Feb 2002 13:49:56 -0500
I see the $200 test continuing to add markers. What I do not see is someone
continuing a 12-marker test, but under the magic $100 mark.
A kind person pointed to me today's www.familytreedna.com, which is offering
the sub $100 test IF you are the first of your surname. This provides a more
affordable solution, and at the same time, a cottage industry in the
creation of imaginary surnames.
In checking to see which names were already represented, I was shocked, and
a little disturbed to see only 5 JONES and 6 WILLIAMS and 6 SMITH. How can
that be? Maybe these folk are resigned to their all-too-common names.
Is any company going to go the other route? Instead of offering 3.8 million
markers for $220, is any company going to offer 12 for sub-$100 on a routine
basis?
Anybody? Any comments on any of these things?
Cheers,
Gregg
