Allan and list:
When I saw Bryan Sykes at the Smithsonian Institution last summer, he spent a long time discussing the DNA of South American Indians. He said even though he had loved the book and author of Kon Tiki, DNA tests (mtDNA I think)have shown that the TRUE migration was by boat the OTHER direction from Japan island hopping across to South America.
Acording to Sykes, North American Indians tend to have a different DNA, thus not dispelling the land bridge theories for them. Of course, some Indians I know argue that Actic peoples were migrating back and forth on ice bridges from Northern Europe and (my favorite place!) Eurasia also.
Cheers, Mary Mallett
