Oh, go ahead and pick on me if you want to Peter. I guess you're right, I do get
bored arguing over the simple arithmetic of mutation rates where you have one
equation and two unknowns over and over and over again.

I'm sure you'll be happy to see that I just submitted heavily edited parts of three
papers involving the DNA of Polynesians, Amerindians and the possibility of European
influence on certain Eastern Amerindian tribes. I'm not an Indian nor Asiatic but I
am interested in the use of DNA in haplotypes and haplogroups. You can easily delete
the papers if you wish, but you might be interested to learn that the authors of the
Amerindian paper used 27 years for their definition of a generation. But shucks -
they're just a bunch of anthropologists.

If we are going to narrow the subject matter to DNA, big organized surname lists,
and which is the best DNA lab, you realize that you are leaving out our moderator,
Ann, who enjoys mtDNA, Mary M. who has very diverse interests, our buddy, Gregg,
who is more often off-the-wall than not, and, of course, Orin who is just as worried
as you as a surname list manager, but is willing to participate in a number of side
subjects which have nothing to do with the Well's surname. And don't forget Pardo
and Sam who have their own DNA interests which don't have much to do with mutation
rates.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm going to agree with you that sometimes we, the
List, get on a subject and run it into the ground but eventually, Ann will step in
and say, "enough, guys". But if all we're going to talk about in the future is
hypothetical mutation rates, generations and laboratories -- I'm out of here! (that
should make you smile!)

Allan
PS: Anytime you use my name, you'll get an answer.
